Free Math Education for All
SumIt is a nonprofit dedicated to breaking down barriers to math education and increasing access to math for all — making world-class learning free, accessible, and empowering for every student.
What We Do
We believe every student — regardless of zip code, income, or background — deserves access to high-quality math instruction and support.
One-on-one and group sessions with volunteer educators and math enthusiasts at no cost to the student.
A growing library of lessons, practice problems, and explainers — available anytime, anywhere, on any device.
In-person and virtual workshops that make math approachable, fun, and relevant to everyday life.
Connecting students with math mentors who inspire them to pursue STEM pathways and careers.
The Problem We're Solving
Students from under-resourced communities fall behind in math as early as kindergarten. Without intervention, that gap compounds over a lifetime.
Students in low-income districts often lack access to experienced math teachers, tutoring, or enrichment programs.
Fear and negative experiences create lasting barriers. We build confidence through patient, judgment-free instruction.
Math proficiency opens doors to STEM careers. Every student who falls behind loses access to a generation of opportunity.
Our Commitment
SumIt was founded on the simple premise that expanding access to math education should come at zero cost.
Every program, every resource, and every tutoring session we offer is provided at zero cost to the student and their family. That's our promise, now and always.
Our Core Values
Radical Accessibility
No cost, no barriers, no prerequisites for getting help.
Community First
We go where we're needed, guided by the communities we serve.
Growth Mindset
Every student is capable. We meet them where they are.
Who We Are
SumIt is a grassroots organization built by people who believe that access to quality math education is a civil rights issue — and that it's solvable.
"The ability to reason mathematically is one of the most powerful tools a person can have. We started SumIt to make sure nobody is denied that tool."— SumIt Founding Team
Our Story
SumIt grew out of a conversation about a frustrating reality: why do students who need math help the most have the least access to it? Private tutoring is expensive. After-school programs are inconsistent. And the internet, while full of resources, can be overwhelming and hard to navigate.
We started small — a few volunteers, a shared passion for math, and a belief that one-on-one attention can change a student's entire relationship with the subject. From those early sessions, SumIt grew.
Today, we're formalizing our structure as we pursue nonprofit status, but our mission has never changed: expand access to math, remove every barrier we can, and trust students to rise when given the chance.
A small group of math educators and advocates come together around a shared frustration — and a shared vision.
We begin offering free one-on-one tutoring to students in our local community, learning as we go.
We launch online resources and workshops, allowing us to reach students beyond our immediate geography.
We're formalizing our structure to grow sustainably and serve even more students with full accountability.
The People
We're a small but mighty group of educators, technologists, and community organizers united by a belief in math's power to open doors.

What We Believe
We center the students who have been most excluded from quality math education. Equity isn't an add-on — it's our core.
We reject the myth that some people "aren't math people." With the right support, every student can succeed.
Our programs are and will always remain free. No paywalls, no premium tiers, no exceptions.
We're building for the future — not quick wins. Lasting change in math education takes patience and persistence.
Our Mission
SumIt exists to ensure that every person — regardless of their background, location, or financial situation — has access to the math education they need to thrive.
Three Pillars
Pillar 01
We remove every economic and logistical barrier between students and quality math instruction. All programs are free, and we prioritize reaching students in under-resourced communities who face the greatest obstacles.
Pillar 02
Free doesn't mean second-rate. We hold ourselves to the highest educational standards, developing curriculum and training our educators rigorously to deliver genuinely impactful learning experiences.
Pillar 03
Sustainable change happens through relationships, not transactions. We embed ourselves in the communities we serve, building trust and long-term partnerships that extend far beyond any single tutoring session.
The Vision
Our immediate mission is local: reach students in our community who lack access to math support. But our long-term vision is national — and eventually global.
We envision a world where a student's zip code has no bearing on their mathematical literacy. Where every child who wants help with math can get it — instantly, for free, with a qualified educator.
Achieving that vision requires building scalable systems, forming strong partnerships, and growing our volunteer and donor community. We're laying that foundation today.
Short Term
Achieve 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, formalize our tutoring programs, and expand our volunteer educator network.
Medium Term
Launch a full digital learning platform with structured math curriculum for K–12 students, fully free.
Long Term
Become a nationally recognized leader in math access, partnering with school districts and institutions across the country.
Statement of Purpose
"Mathematics is the language of problem solving. SumIt's mission is to expand access to meaningful math education by providing free tutoring, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities that help students build confidence, strengthen problem-solving skills, and discover the joy of mathematics."
— SumIt Mission Statement
